Board Meeting – September 18, 2017

M I N U T E S


The Meeting was called to order at 7:00PM by President Dee Costoso. Board Members Present: Dee Costoso, Rose Panella, Kathy Beck, Mazie McMahon, Margie Hersh, Gerard Barbella
Board Members Absent: Sharon Hurley

June Minutes
The minutes of the June meeting were previously emailed to all Board members and a printed copy given out at the meeting. There were no changes to the minutes. Rose Panella made a motion to accept the minutes and Gerard Barbella seconded it. The motion carried.

July 24, 2017 Special Board Meeting Minutes
A special board meeting was held in July for the sole purpose of filling the Board seat vacated by Paul Gardner. Mazie McMahon read the minutes of that meeting. Gerard Barbella was appointed at that meeting as a new Board member. Rose Panella made a motion to accept the minutes of the Special Board meeting, Dee Costoso seconded it and the motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report by Rose Panella
The checking account balance at September 15th was $19,856.74. Note: The total of the Legal Fund is $1,602.00 and the Bingo Fund is $2,712.70 making the actual available balance in the checkbook $15,542.04 as of September 15, 2017. Mazie McMahon made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report, Margie Hersh seconded it and the motion carried.

Business
  • Color Copies – Kathy Beck submitted a receipt for having color copies made to be inserted in the October issue of Toppings. The cost was $400.00. Dee Costoso had given her permission to do this. Rose Panella pointed out that anything in excess of $300.00 had to be approved by the Board. Kathy offered to pay this personally but was met with  opposition from some board members. Mazie McMahon made a motion to reimburse Kathy for the color copies, Gerard Barbella seconded it and the motion carried.
  • Appointment of Vice President – Mazie McMahon made a motion to appoint Gerard Barbella Vice President of the Board, Rose Panella seconded it, and the motion carried.
Appointment of RAC Chairperson – Rose Panella made a motion to appoint Gerard Barbella RAC Chairperson, Mazie McMahon seconded it, and the motion carried.

Reactivate Line Dancing Group – Mazie McMahon 
reported that she had talked to Mary Phillips about this earlier in the day and, subsequently, Mary informed her that the previous Leader, Margie Smith, was willing to start it up again. The first session will be Monday, October 2nd, 7PM in the Clubhouse.
  • Events Review/Update – The following events were discussed.
September 23rd - “Rockin’ at the Ridge” Dance at the CH from 7-11PM
October 5th – Golf Cart Clinic outside the AC  9-1
October 7th – Electronic Recycling at the CH from 9-11AM (there will be no pick-ups)
Octobrr 10th - Health Fest at the CH 9:30-2:00
  • October 11th – Bridges Class – Chair Dancing at the CH 9:30-10:30
  • October 20th – Halloween Party – Sponsored by SRHA/Hosted by Ladies Auxiliary @ CH 7-11PM
  • October 28th – Trash to Treasure at the CH 9AM – 1PM
  • November 18th – Tree Trimming
  • November 23rd – Thanksgiving Dinner at the CH Hosted by Mary Phillips and Friends
  • December 9th – Holiday Brunch – Will be moved to sometime in January
  • December 25th – Christmas Dinner at the CH Hosted by Mary Phillips and Friends
  • December 31st – New Year’s Eve Party with Cliff Ritchie at the CH from 7PM to Midnight

At this point in the meeting, residents started questioning having Cliff Ritchie for New Year’s Eve. Rose Panella was asked if there was a contract and she replied no. Whenever Cliff has performed, it has always been a “Gentlemen’s Agreement.” The agreement is the same as last year, Cliff receives 70% of the ticket sales. A lot of yelling ensued. Rose Panella immediately resigned her position and President Costoso accepted it and told her to hand in all of her records and keys the next day. Rose Panella left the meeting. At this point, Secretary Mazie McMahon, excused herself from the meeting and left.

Admentment: After Rose Panella and Mazie McMahon left the board meeting, the board still had a quorum.
Dee Costoso, Gerard Barbella, Kathy Beck, and Margie Hersh. We continued with one last issue which was to purchase QuickBooks for the HOA computer. Mr Barbella made the motion to purchase Quickbook subscription. Motion was carried by Kathy Beck and the motion was carried.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:15pm.

STRAWBERRY RIDGE HOMEOWNER’S MEMBERSHIP

REASONS TO JOIN SRHOA: Strawberry Ridge Homeowners Association is the only legal body accepted by The State of Florida to act on behalf of all residents of our park. SRHOA meets regularly with management and negotiates on behalf of all residents. SRHOA constantly evaluates and analyzes ways and means to improve our quality of life. SRHOA retains the services of legal counsel, who assists SRHOA to operate in a legal manner.

SRHA is your watch dog on important items such as; rent increases, changes in Strawberry Ridge rules and regulations, and other services. Should it be deemed that one or more items is improper, SRHA would negotiate, mediate or, if necessary, recommend litigation to protect the residents of Strawberry Ridge.

SRHA is managed by a Board of Directors elected by the voting members and consists of seven Di-rectors including the President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Paid membership also gives you the privilege to vote on issues as required. The Board is empowered by law to act on behalf of all members. The board establishes committees to carry out specific duties and programs each year such as:

Welcoming, Entertainment, Finance & Audit, Membership, Rent, RAC (Resident Advisory Council)

SRHOA also sponsors many social events throughout the year. Monthly coffee and donuts, the 4th of July cookout, and other holiday events are FREE to all residents.

SRHA also maintains an office with posted hours when selling tickets for events located in the Activity Center on Strawberry Ridge Blvd.

Remember there is strength in numbers. Membership in SRHA is only $6.00 per year or $15.00 for three years. Our membership runs from April 1st of the current year to March 31st of the following year. This is an inexpensive way to protect your investment.
